Interview with Yewon Park

Yewon Park is a Visual Development Artist in Blizzard Entertainment from South Korea with 4 years of industry experience.
She likes to work with Photoshop and Zbrush.

What let you into the CGI/2D? Tell us your story

Since I was young, I loved animations and manga. Especially, Disney movies always made me feel passionate enough to study animation. So, I decided to go abroad study in America. I graduated from Art Center Collage of Design. While being in Art Center, I did internship for Titmouse, Gameover and, DreamWorks. Right After graduating, I started working for cinematic team at Blizzard Entertainment as visual development artist. It was first step of me getting in CGI.

Where do you go to get inspired? What/ Who inspires you?

I go check Artistation to get inspired. And people in my department at Blizzard always inspired me.

How does a typical working day look like?

It seems very casual and simple. I usually work with Art directors for feedback.
So communication is very important.

What does your work place look like?

I have my own table and each one also has one. My work place is pretty dark to see better color on monitor.

How do you star motivated in this industry?

My co-workers are always great motivation for me to improve skills.

What’s your passion beside CGI./2D?

I am passionate watching movies and hanging out with friends.

How do you keep your portfolio up to date? Any tips?

I upload some personal project and some work that I did for my company.
Tip is that you should keep up with your personal project.

What Software do you use to create your artwork?

Photoshop

What Software do you want to learn in future? And why?

I want to learn Maya because it would help me my work process.

Which books would you recommend to the read?

I would recommend reading manga such as Naruto, One piece to get inspired of drawing skill.

What Music do you listen to while working?

I listened to D.O.N and Meteor from Changmo.

Any advice for new artists?

Even if you confront some difficulty, don’t give up!
There are so much online classes and information that you can learn for improvement.
