Interview With Grace Kim

What led you into the CGI/2D? Tell us your story.

I’ve been drawing since I was a child. Art was like an escape for me. I’ve been interested in Anime like Dragonball and Streetfighter. Then I got really into Tekken when it came out on Playstation. I think these things influenced me in making my career choice.

Where do you go to get inspired? What/Who inspires you?

I used to be a hip hop dancer and that’s what inspired me into fashion and street culture. I love to play games and when Overwatch first came out I became heavily inspired by their characters.
There are a lot of artists who heavily inspires me! Ahmed Aldoori, Arnold Tsang, Ben Zhang, Qiu Fang and Sergi Brosa to name a few!

How does a typical working day look like?

My schedule is pretty hectic, but on a good day I would generally like to put in 4-8 hours of my time on my art.
I try to workout for an hour and play games or watch Anime for the rest of the day.

What does your workplace look like?

How do you stay motivated in this industry?

I play my favorite games or look at other professional artists! Also watching my artist friends grow really helps me stay motivated as well!

What is your passion beside CGI/2D?

I am a Guinea Pig enthusiast. (I have 3 guinea pigs)
I love to play games! (FFXIV, R6S, BF3, OW to name a few)
I love to play the piano and I love to dance on my own free time.

How do you keep your portfolio up to date? Any tips?

I draw everyday, but I try to update as much as I can because my art is evolving constantly.

What Software do you use to create your artwork?

I use photoshop for all my artwork.

What Software do you want to learn in future? And why?

ZBrush, Maya and After Effects.

Hip Hop and Chill Mix!

Any advice for new Artists?

Keep practicing and draw constantly.
Study all your favorite artists.
