I started CG by learning 3DsMax in 2008. It took almost 2 years to learn Zbrush for me. But I had a 20 years background of art. I used to paint since I was 3! My Mother did a great job helping me flourish. It took about 2 decades for me to know that CG is the thing for me. I tried in various fields such as realism drawing, cartoon, caricature, portraits , etc.
